The PHC medical department operates four hospitals with a total of 460 beds, four health centers, and 18 clinics. These medical facilities provide free services to over 11,000 PHC employees and their families, and at significantly reduced costs to members of local communities who do not work for PHC.

To support its services to local communities, the PHC Foundation contributes to improving public health and hygiene in order to reduce morbidity rates in rural areas. Its interventions include actions aimed at improving access to clean water, combating malaria, and improving the sexual health of young people. The PHC Foundation also plans to implement initiatives to improve nutrition and organize school meals for children.

  • Improving access to drinking water in rural areas

Rural areas in the DRC are rarely supplied with drinking water by the national water company. The PHC company has built more than 70 boreholes that provide drinking water to its employees and surrounding communities. The PHC Foundation, now responsible for the maintenance and repair of these boreholes, plans to install a water purification system at these boreholes and increase their number in order to make drinking water healthier and more accessible to a growing number of beneficiaries.

  • Combating malaria and improving public health in rural areas

In rural areas, malaria is a daily threat that reduces life expectancy, hinders human capital development, and diminishes the performance of schoolchildren and workers. The absence or inadequacy of malaria control measures in rural areas disadvantages residents and confines them to endemic poverty. The PHC Foundation is committed to reducing the incidence of malaria, improving the environment, and increasing access to health services for better community health.

  • Improving the sexual and reproductive health of young people in rural areas

The sexual and reproductive health of young people can be an obstacle to their development and prevent them from reaching their full potential. The PHC Foundation aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health of young people by empowering them to make informed choices and build better futures. It provides support that combines addressing the barriers related to period poverty among school-aged girls, preventing unintended pregnancies and improving pregnancy management for disadvantaged girls, and reducing the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among young people in rural areas.

  • school food based on soy

A hungry child experiences learning difficulties. That's why the PHC Foundation plans to implement a school canteen system based on locally produced food enriched with soy protein. This project will provide each child with a daily meal that meets a large portion of their nutritional needs. This will encourage children to attend school and facilitate their learning.
