The PHC Foundation works with thousands of community members in rural areas of the DRC to help them improve their food security, increase their incomes, promote their empowerment, and cultivate a sense of responsibility that will enable harmonious and sustainable development. To achieve its objectives, the PHC Foundation implements the following projects:
-
Agricultural Producer Support Project
The objective of this project is to build high-performing agricultural value chains based on the priority activities of agriculture, fishing, and livestock farming in targeted rural communities. Community members benefit from technical assistance, adopt best sustainable agricultural practices, and gain access to markets, credit for agricultural inputs, and agricultural insurance. The expected results of this project include improved food security, higher incomes, more rural employment, and strengthened community self-management capacities.
-
Production of quality seeds for the transformation of agriculture in the DRC
The PHC Foundation is participating in the national effort of the Agenda for the Transformation of Agriculture in the DRC (ATA-DRC). To convert its enormous agricultural potential into food self-sufficiency, the DRC must provide all agricultural producers with access to the quality seeds and other inputs they need. This project utilizes 100 hectares of land donated by the PHC company to produce maize, rice, cassava, and soybean seeds, under the supervision of the National Seed Service (SENASEM). This project provides Congolese producers with quality seeds, thereby improving the quantities of their harvests while helping to reduce imports of food products that we can produce on the soil of the DRC.
-
Empowerment and Promotion of Entrepreneurship Among Youth and Women
Unemployment has reached alarming proportions in the DRC, particularly among young people and women. This project aims to create small businesses led by young people or women within agricultural value chains or in support services for actors in these value chains. The expected results of this project include not only the creation of businesses and jobs for young people and women, but also the strengthening of agricultural value chains, thereby increasing food security and reducing unemployment.

Sustainable housing for a better quality of life in rural areas
In 2023, the housing deficit in the DRC was estimated at over 4 million units, while each year less than 7% of this deficit is met. In rural areas, the deficit is even more pronounced, and the housing available there is often of lower quality. In line with its accelerated growth over the past five years, PHC has seen its workforce increase by more than 70%, and it is investing in providing housing for all its employees in rural areas. This effort, which is in the general interest of the entire Congolese nation, could catalyze large-scale action leading to the construction of numerous sustainable and affordable social housing units, thereby not only solving the housing problem but also creating thousands of jobs in the construction sector. The PHC Foundation is developing this project to gather the expertise needed to build numerous social housing units and to mobilize the necessary funding to achieve the goal of decent housing for all. The vision of this project is to improve the quality of life in rural areas and to create thousands of jobs in the housing sector.
